Seattle Seahawks vs. Kansas City Chiefs prediction and preseason preview

Another old AFC West foe

Week number three of the preseason is upon us, and it’s back on the road again for the Seattle Seahawks.

This time out though, we get to see what Russell Wilson can do with the number one unit, and, we get our first glimpse of Sidney Rice in action.

Matchup: Seattle vs. Kansas City
Venue: Arrowhead Stadium
Time: 5:00
Date: August, 24th 2012
Weather: 89 High, 71 Low. Isolated Thunderstorms
Team Records: Seahawks (2-0) Chiefs (1-1)
Standings: Preseason

Game notes/How they match up

As mentioned above, this will be the first time we get to see Russell Wilson with the first team unit.

Can he recreate his 2nd half magic of the first two weeks against an NFL starting defense? They aren’t exactly the healthiest of the league, but still might prove to be a challenge for Wilson.

That will be the big question for the Hawks.

On the Chiefs side of the ball,  Dwayne Bowe will be seeing some time finally.

After only having two practices in pads so far, coach Romeo Crennel has seen enough to warrent him some playing time.

Seahawks secondary will have their hands full if he truly is up to speed. But hey, we shut down Manning last week, Matt Cassel should be a walk in the park.

All the hype will be in the first half though, as Wilson and Bowe will be taking center stage as the biggest question marks for each team thus far.

What to watch: Seattle

How many touches will Sidney Rice actually get?

It’s tough to tell what kind of an impact Rice will have this season, especially since he is basically the Franklin Gutierrez of the Seahawks.

Since we don’t offically know who the starting QB will be, even though it has been leaked that Pete Carroll has already given the job to Matt Flynn, this game may or may not be the best to judge the progress of Rice.

Once again, it will be up to the Seattle defense to keep us in the game early against the Chiefs first team offense.

But what we do not know this week is, can Flynn lead us to a second half beatdown like Wilson has the past two weeks?

What to watch: Kansas City

Of course all eyes in the Show Me State will be watching to see if the combo of Cassel to Bowe can be as dangerous as it is advertised as being.

Brady Quinn is struggling to find himself as the number two QB on the depth chart. This coming after his highly touted career at Notre Dame has fizzled into a backup career in the NFL.

Robert Turbin

Robert Turbin will need to step up the ground game with Marshawn Lynch out.

He might not even beat out Ricky Stanzi for the job.

This means he may be gunslinging, which means possible interceptions for our defense.

Jamaal Charles quietly looks all the way back from his torn anterior cruciate ligament. Peyton Hillis continues to look like he’s in form too. The KC run game should test the Seahawks front seven.

Seattle O vs. Kansas City D

All day long, all day strong, Russell Wilson has shown he can pick apart a second and third team defense, both on the ground and through the air.

But this will be a test for him against the banged up KC defense.

Robert Turbin will need to step up the ground game with Marshawn Lynch out. Lynch along with FB Michael Robinson did not practice on Tuesday or Wednesday, and are both considered doubtful.

But coming off a 31-17 loss to the St. Louis Rams one would think the Chiefs D will come to play at home on the friendly fields at Arrowhead.

Seahawks will also be without Doug Baldwin, Cameron Morrah, Kellen Winslow, John Moffitt, and James Carpenter.

Prediction/Analysis

This has the potential to be a really fun game to watch. Two young defenses that are on the rise, quarterbacks and wide receivers fighting for roster spots, a couple defensive minded coaches that are both searching for reinvigorated offenses.

The Seahawks are a 3 point favorite and I think Las Vegas has got this one right.

The Seahawks behind a Matt Flynn second half versus 2nd and 3rd teamers should enable the Hawks to pull this one out by a touchdown on the road.

Seahawks 17 – Chiefs 10
